Unfortunately, the White Boxer has been the cause of much controversy among breeders and owners for quite some time and sadly in this day and age people are still discriminating against white boxers. We hope the information in this brief article will help dispel any myths that you have heard about the White Boxer.
We just cannot see how any *true* boxer lover can discriminate a boxer because of the colour of its coat...
All white boxers are Albinos
White Boxers are NOT albinos. Albino's do not have any pigment. White Boxers are simply born with WHITE coloured hair. An albino will have pink eyes and no color anywhere on the body including skin.
MYTH # 2
All White Boxers are deaf/blind.
Although there is a higher incidence of deafness when a Boxer is white (approximately 18% of white dogs in general, not just boxers) not all are deaf. Deaf Boxers can be trained using a variety of methods including hand signals, sign language, flashlights and more. A white boxer will not 'go deaf' in later life either just because it is white! White boxers are NOT blind either and their coat colour has nothing AT ALL to do with their eyesight
White Boxers develop more health problems and are sicker than other Boxers.
Because a Boxer is white does not mean that it is going to be unhealthy. No clinical evidence has been recorded showing the White Boxer is at higher risk for health problems.
White boxers are rare
White boxers are not rare. As many as 25% of Boxers are born white. In fact, some of the first foundation dogs for the Boxer breed were white. Since White Boxers do not conform to the breed standard of the Kennel Club alot of breeders will still have them put to sleep. Any anyone who advertises a rare white boxer is not truthful and probably just in it for the money with no regard for the animal.
White Boxers are "mean" or have behavioral problems.
White Boxers are not "mean". Coat color on a Boxer does not affect a Boxer's personality. White Boxers exhibit the same endearing personality traits as their darker counterparts.
White Boxer Cannot be registered
White boxers can be registered with the Kennel Club. However they cannot be shown in the conformation ring, but can be shown in obedience and agility
